Abstract

This paper describes how SWoRD (Scaffolded Writing and Rewriting in the Discipline), a web-based application, supports the process of writing practice by improving inaccurate student peer reviews. To help students construct coherent knowledge as well as writing and review skills, SWoRD supports a whole process of writing, reviewing, back-reviewing, rewriting, re-reviewing, and re-back-reviewing by scaffolding the journal publication process as its authentic practice model. Furthermore, SWoRD seriously considers the limited effectiveness of peer feedback that is generally inaccurate compared to instructors' feedback by implementing three dimensional evaluations (flow, logic, and insight) and three review accuracy indices (systemic differences, consistency, and sensitivity).
