The term multimedia describes a number of diverse technologies that allow visual and audio media to be taken and combined in new ways for the purpose of communicating. The aim of this paper is to present some examples of the use of multimedia technology in the educational field. We will refer on different applications of multimedia in Switzerland, introducing a project named Mathematical Thought, which is an attempt to organize a course of mathematics using multimedia solutions. This project has been developed at the Academy of Architecture of Mendrisio. We will also introduce the Swiss Virtual Campus (SVC) which involves different Swiss faculties to realize multimedia modules for distance learning.
