Abstract

Current thinking in educational technology seems to indicate a move away from courseware design in favor of Web based learning modules. Until recently, designers of music appreciation courseware applications had to depend on CD-ROM technology for storing large music data files. The dependence on CDs made the application impractical for Web based up and downloading purposes. If music modules are to be posted on a Web site, other methods than CDs had to be available. The advent of MP3 technology provided the needed means. Modules can now be created for specific course content objects and be sized for practical Web processing.
