Abstract

For support of peoples with cognitive deficites we have developed a distributed system with mobile access to Internet and Web services. The system is extended to use in student education by ubiquitous access to learning scenarios and peer-to-peer applications on base an ad-hoc network for spontaneous interactions. The architecture is based on an enterprise computing technology (e.g. EJB & Corba/Java), Web services and mobile access to the Web. The transport basis form the Internet/WWW and wide area cellular radio networks (e.g. ETSI/GSM, GPRS or UMTS). The mobile device is represented by a handheld computer, realizing a bidirectional connection to the teaching and learning area. Some scenarios are developed to use the mobile support system in student education, e.g. in remote participation at courses, preparation of exercises and examinations and for the access to lecture scripts. A service center for pervasive computing with different services is in development.
