Preparing Mentor Teachers to Serve as Technology and Content Role Models for Preservice Teachers

Our PT3 grant, Inventing New Strategies for Integrating Technology into Teacher Education (INSITE), has focused on developing a multifaceted model of technology infusion within the UTeach program, an award winning secondary teachers' development program in mathematics and science. One facet of that model addresses a critical need within the UTeach program: placing student teachers in classrooms where technology is embraced and effectively integrated. By preparing mentor teachers to successfully use and integrate technology, preservice teachers can have the opportunity to observe, understand, and to practice integrated technology in their field experiences. This paper discusses the implementation and evaluation of our efforts to prepare mentor teachers to serve as role models of technology use.
