The Department of Bioinformatics/Medical Informatics at Bielefeld University investigated the benefits of notebooks in computer science education in general and especially in applied Bioinformatics education. The main target group of this evaluation study are computer science stu-dents, who are concerned with IT fundamentals. During a one-year seminar students were trained in different fields - theoretically and practically. This paper is about the curricular setup and gives first results of its evaluation. This investigation is supported by BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) within the German Notebook University Program.
