Abstract

This study is to compare the evaluation of e-learning programs in distance education in different cultural settings. The two compared institutions are University of Houston in the United States and Online Institution at Southwest Normal University in China. Survey research method has been used to conduct this study. The survey instrument has been administered through an online courseware and a web site. The target population in this study is the students who were enrolled in summer distance programs in the University of Houston, and those who are enrolled in the fall semester in China. The purpose of this study is to find out the quality of e-learning programs in respect of teaching and learning from students' perspectives, and to find out if different cultural settings will affect distance course design and instructional delivery as well as students' perceptions toward e-learning in distance education.
