Abstract

In this paper, we present Vizipen, a system for semi-automatic generation of multimedia concept presentations. The name Vizipen stands for "Virtually Zero Input Presentation Environment." The Vizipen system provides an uncomplicated way of creating multimedia presentations such as graphical animations, by replacing embedded multimedia objects and their properties as desired by its users. Apart from automatic generation of multimedia presentations, the system also provides concept-based access to multimedia objects and representation of domain knowledge repositories such as school curricula or company technical documents in an XML-based standard knowledge representation format. The presentations are generated using another XML-based standard format: SVG, or scalable vector graphics. Vizipen illustrates a flexible and extensible architecture for multimedia learning system design.
