Abstract
The reusable learning objects standards being proposed by Cisco, Learning Technology Standards Committee of IEEE, and IMS Global learning Consortium identifies methods for constructing and metatagging computer-based objects to make them more reusable and efficient in the construction of E-learning systems. Notwithstanding the epistemological impossibility of “learning objects,” the standards and strategies provide little evidence of any understanding of learning theories and principles, especially contemporary ones. We propose and expanded conception of learning objects, including information objects, conversation objects, activity objects, knowledge objects, thinking objects and learning objects (artifacts), that account better for the function of objects included in E-learning environments.
