Abstract
The advancement of computer-mediated communication and Internet technologies has been shaping the landscape of higher education. It helps boost online education and allows universities and educational institutes to expand its global outreach through transnational collaboration. There are an increasing number of universities in the United States, UK, and Australia starting offering distance courses to offshore students. China is among the most attractive targets of developing countries as a potential collaborator for offering online degrees due to its rapid rise in economy development and enormous demand for higher education access. However, up to now there is a lack of literature that addresses development of the transnational partnerships in online education. This session will explore key factors that influence development of partnerships between US and China online programs. Presenters will share their experiences of recent visits to China and interviewing with some distance education leaders. Examples of successful partnership development will be discussed.
