Abstract
Self-directed navigation involving knowledge construction in hyperspace is not so easy for learners since they cannot always find a navigation path to be followed for achieving their learning goal. They also often fail to notice the pages to be learned and semantic relationships between the pages navigated, and then finish learning with incomplete knowledge. It is accordingly necessary to enhance their awareness of navigation path that they should follow and of the incompleteness of knowledge that they have constructed. We call such awareness unknown awareness. This paper discusses how to reuse navigation histories, which are obtained from other learners f/teachers f usage of Web contents, to provide learners with an unknown awareness in learning on the Web. This paper also proposes facilities for scaffolding the unknown awareness: guided tour facility and ihComparator, which can select some navigation histories, which are more appropriate to learners.
