Abstract
This is a newly initiated project (December 2003) is in progress to evaluate a Web-based training course on introductory level food safety for food handlers. The course contains ten modules that can be taken one at a time. Each module is followed by a short quiz that must be passed in order to move on to the next module. The entire course is followed by a final exam, that is identical to the questionnaire instrument used in this evaluation Subjects (n = 600) will be recruited and randomly assigned to experimental or control groups. Subjects will be drawn from throughout the United States. At the beginning of the study a pretest will be administered to all subjects on-line. Intervention subjects will be asked to complete the Web-based course. Subjects will complete two posttests to evaluate change in knowledge and applied skills. Funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health.
